Would it be safe for me to install the thunderbolt firmware by flashing, even though it is listed for Win 10. I was wondering if the community has any thoughts about this. I am also unable to check the version of my thunderbolt firmware in Ubuntu. People have suggested that making sure the firmware of the Thunderbolt controller is up to date is another factor, however while there is an update available (Version 4.41.108.005, A01), it is only available for Windows 10. But that did not solve the issue - in Bios, I have enabled a number of settings concerning Thunderbolt (e.g., 'no security'). I have not been able to do it and I have so far updated the bios to the latest version 1.8.2. I have been trying to connect an Apple Thunderbolt 2 display via an Apple TB2-TB3 adapter using the Thunderbolt 3 ports on my machine which is running Ubuntu 18.04 that came with the machine.
